Getting Candid with Lime Cordiale [INTERVIEW]

We’re getting candid in our interview with Lime Cordiale.

Lime Cordiale talk about stepping into larger-than-life personas on stage to turn their live shows into a party, how the brothers compliment and challenge each other as writing partners and musicians, and the skills they’ve learned from actors, including Idris Elba, and how they incorporate that into the creative process.

Lime Cordiale is an Australian band composed of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach who played music together as teenagers and officially formed the band in 2009. The band has wracked up multi-millions of streams, known for their infectious melodies, catchy hooks, and clever lyrics. Name 3 Songs: You’ve had a really big touring career playing lots of festivals. And with that there’s this energy exchange between performers and fans doing this night after night. Do you feel like you’ve grown used to this?

Lime Cordiale: Even on our biggest shows, we try to keep them as intimate as possible. It’s quite rewarding in the way that we interact with the audience. It’s pretty carefree. We do take ourselves seriously career wise, but then we don’t take ourselves too seriously, you know, on stage or with what we do.

We just like to have heaps of fun. And make that clear and let audience members know that they can be silly and stupid and wackos as well. We like to let our guard down pretty early in the set so that people feel like they have permission [have fun]. [They]  don’t have to be that cool guy in the audience, like, “oh, well that guitar tone is quite cool. Don’t you think the guitar tone’s quite good, Louis? Yeah. It’s interesting sound in this room. I don’t know about the sound in this room.”. You know, it’s like, who cares? Just have fun. It’s a party.

I feel like that’s kind of the MO of your band and the music you make. You’re like, we’re just here to have a good time, we’re just gonna make some jams.

Yeah. We have a mad fan base. Our audience is really cool. I always think about if you were in a punk rock band or just a different genre, you might have a questionable fan base. It’s scary going out there into the crowd or something. But yeah, everyone that we meet at shows, just absolute legends.
